Wade Smith was one of the defense attorneys at the 1979 trial.
I remember observing Smith, one of the things that stand out in my mind was during Bernard Segal's closing argument. Smith was to give a portion of the argument, but Segal, in his rage lost track of time. Smith, sitting very patiently at the defense's table, waiting for Segal to call on him, but as the time passed, and Judge Dupree alerting Segal that his time was almost up, Smith just slowly slumped back into the chair. One could gather from his body language that he was watching the case fall apart and there was nothing he could do about it.
