On September 4, per the local rules, the defense filed paper copies of the Joint Appendix. Today they filed for and received authorization to file their opening brief (this is the same as the Proof Brief filed July 21, but with citations to the Joint Appendix), and their Reply Brief on September 21. The government also have until September 21 to file their Response Brief (same as Proof Brief but with citations to the Joint Appendix). Essentially the only thing new that will be filed on September 21 is their Reply Brief. The purpose of the joint appendix is to have all the documents cited in the briefs paginated in chronological order.
