Jeffrey Robert MacDonald

Dear Mr. Murphy:

Our file in reference the above captioned indicates that on 3 August 1970 Clifford J. Somers sent you a letter requesting certain investigation. Copy of this letter was sent to this office. On Friday, October 30, 1970, Mr. Warren H. Coolidge, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, made request to your office, said request also being communicated to the Department of Justice that this case be reopened for a complete investigation. It is very important that the request made by Captain Somers' letter of 3 August 1970 be complied with as soon as possible. There is a possibility that this matter will be presented to a Grand Jury during the week of 9 November 1970 and we will desperately need the information requested in Captain Somers' letter of 3 August, 1970.

We also request an immediate follow-up of the request made by Colonel Rock that Helena Stokely [sic] and William Posey, 305 Pearl Street, Fayetteville, North Carolina be investigated so as to eliminate any possibility of these people being possible suspects.

We also request that the Braswell lead in Greensboro be checked and that at least his associates listed in the 302 be interviewed to establish an alibi.

I appreciate your cooperation in this matter,

Very truly yours,

   Warren H. Coolidge
         United States Attorney
